the great organic debate

Elsa-Rene Henderer - Sunday, August 18, 2013

Organic vs chemicals, this is a massive topic to take on so I'm just going to make a few key points. Personally I sit on the fence with the tug of war between good and evil. My salon is one of the few in Perth to stock the Zenz Therapy organic hair colour but we also stock the entire range of Wella Proffessional too so since I use both and with 14 years of hairdressing under my belt I feel I'm qualified to give my opinions on the two. Please note these are only my opinions so take it or leave it.

Is organic hair colour as good? And by this people often mean does it give as good grey coverage, last as long, look as nice? Well I'm going to break it down quite simply.

Does the organic colour cover grey hair as well?

In my opinion, most of the time yes however on really resistant grey hair we do struggle to get the full coverage we see with Wella and sometimes this can make the colour look slightly translucent.

Does the organic hair colour last as long?

Yes

Can you achieve lighter blonde levels with organics using only a high lift tint?

Personally I do not think the organic range gives as much lift so it is harder to achieve the lightest blondes using a tint, however the lightest blonde shades have a nicer cooler reflect in the organic. So you may have to compromise on lightness but you will achieve lovely tones that are not as brassy.

Can fashion shades be achieved using the organics?

Absolutely yes. In fact we recommend Zenz for our violet clients as there is a beautiful selection that come out vibrant and so shiny. Obviously being organic the colours with higher intensity in reflect are harder to accomplish and for truly vibrant reds and coppers this isn't their forte however there is still a beautiful selection that come out with amazing shine. Fashion colour often boil down to colour placement and technique so we can get creative with the organic products and see some beautiful results.

To summarise............. When it boils down to facts, figures and science behind the products I'm not your best source, I believe each individual should choose what resonates best with them. Obviously the organic range is the safer option for the healthy conscious and particularly those who may have battled with cancer or are pregnant and Zenz Therapy do boast to be as clean and as pure as colour can get to date. I'm just merely sharing my experiences on the results we are seeing in the salon and overall I believe sometimes you do have to compromise on getting the perfect result in order to have the cleaner organic option. So I hope this answers some questions and if not I invite you to hit me with more. :-)
